What is Irish Dance?

I don't think i could really explain irish dance to you. I could always give you the technical view of irish dance which is a form of dance where dancers who are the same age compete against eachother in specific dances and try to place in the top 3. There are different levels of dancers from beginner, the lowest level. to advanced beginner, then novice, after that prizewinner. You only compete againgst people who are in your age group and level. After prize winnner the is preliminary championship and then the highest, open championship. In open and prelim you only do 3 dances.

Nobody really thinks of dance as a sport but I think one of the best was to describe Irish dance is in Irish dance quote.

"Welcome to our world. Where blisters and sore muscles are given a whole new meaning. Where wearing a wig comes as a second nature. A place where the name "Gavin" corresponds to a god. Where seeing orange legs and rhinestones covered everything is normal. A world where the words sock glue, hornpipe and Oireachtas are used in every sentence. We trying like athletes. We re no strangers to injury, rivals, victory and defeat. We are tough and beautiful. And yes, we kick your ass. Welcome to the world of Irish dance."

I think this quote describes everything that it is part of our world.  I think if people saw what we actually go though and everything we are able to do as irish dancers, they would stop and think I wish I could do that.
